Sen. Fetterman meets with Washington County leaders about repeat flooding

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman visited the City of Washington on Friday to speak with local leaders about flooding.

During the visit, officials toured recent trouble spots, including the football stadium at Washington and Jefferson College.

In September, Washington’s mayor told Channel 11 that the summer flooding stemming from Chartiers Creek was like nothing he had seen before.

In fact, August through the first couple of weeks of September were the wettest month-and-a-half in Washington County since 1971. In mid-September, the City of Washington declared a state of emergency because of the significant damage to homes and businesses.

Part of the discussion with Fetterman was about how the Federal Emergency Management Agency and U.S. Corps of Engineers’ resources could help.
