Dog alerts residents after apartments were 'firebombed' in Harrison Twp.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Several people escaped a fire in Harrison Township early Thursday, and investigators said it was deliberately set.

The fire began at around 1 a.m. at a home that had been converted into apartments on Vine Street.  Two people were taken to the hospital, where they were treated for smoke inhalation and released.

Five other people made it out of the home safely.

"Someone firebombed my house," said Marcus Obey. He was one of the residents who escaped.

Channel 11's Dave Bondy reported that Allegheny County Police are looking at surveillance video which shows someone throwing an incendiary device at the back of the house.

One woman said her dog woke her up and alerted her to the flames.

"It was the puppy who woke us up.  If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be here right now. Seven of us would have died," Ilah Verner said.

Jacob Fisher and his grandmother were taken to the hospital. He told Channel 11 News that he thought he was in trouble.

"I was in the hospital talking to my gram, and they came in and handcuffed me and took me to the police," he said. “Then they waited for detectives to come, and they apologized."

Fisher was released. No arrests have been made.
