Son accused of stabbing father to death in Sharpsburg

SHARPSBURG, Pa. — A son is accused of fatally stabbing his father in Sharpsburg Monday evening.

Authorities responded to an apartment near the corner of 19th and Main streets around 6 p.m.

According to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office, the victim was identified as David Schreiber, 63.

Neighbor Bonita Pendergraf told Channel 11's Aaron Martin that when she answered a knock on her door, she found the victim's 35-year-old son covered in blood.

“I was in there cooking and across the hall, the neighbor just knocked on the door and said, ‘Help, I just killed my dad,’” she said. "I get a little closer to the door and I see him, and he's covered in blood."

Neighbors also told Martin that the victim’s son moved in with his father at the beginning of the month after coming back to Pennsylvania from New Mexico.

Authorities said the victim's son, Daniel Schreiber, was arrested and charged with criminal homicide. According to the criminal complaint, Daniel Schreiber told them he stabbed his father several times.

He was lodged at the Allegheny County jail.

Neighbors of David Schreiber told Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic he had lived in Sharpsburg for two years.

Police have not released a motive.
