Squirrel Hill Tunnel closing snarls morning rush

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Motorists trying to get into Pittsburgh from the eastern suburbs experienced long delays Wednesday morning because a key tunnel was closed after a report of a light fixture fire.

Crews didn't find such a problem in the Squirrel Hill Tunnel, which reopened but not before inbound traffic backed up for miles.

The tunnel is a portal for Interstate 376, which connects the city with its eastern suburbs.

The inbound lanes closed about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday and were reopening less than an hour later. The outbound lanes weren't closed quite as long.
