Steelers open OTAs without WR Mike Wallace

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers returned to work Tuesday with a new offensive playbook but without Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Wallace, who is working out on his own in Louisiana as he tries to finalize a new deal with the team.

Wallace has not yet signed the one-year deal worth around $2.7 million the Steelers offered the restricted free agent during the offseason and is working out on his own back in Louisiana.

Coach Mike Tomlin expects a new deal to be signed eventually, calling the current situation a little "short-term misery."

Wallace was one of the few notable absences on Tuesday. Safety Troy Polamalu, who normally waits until minicamp, dressed for the voluntary workout.
