Study lists top 5 most unhealthy fast food kids' meals

PITTSBURGH — A consumer alert shows despite fast food restaurants offering healthier options for children, many popular kids’ meals aren’t good for you.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine recently published a list of the top five worst "healthy" kids' meals.

Chick-fil-A's grilled nuggets meal topped the list at No. 1. No. 2 is the McDonald's cheeseburger happy meal, followed by Burger King's kids' meal and Sonic kids' junior burger meal. No. 5 on the list was Denny's build your own Junior Grand Slam.

Dietician Kasie Fondren-Jorquera said the negative consequences of kids eating unhealthy can be devastating.

"In addition to gaining weight, it can increase their blood pressure and they start gaining fluid. Overall, it's not setting them up for a healthy lifestyle later in life," Fondren-Jorquera said.

Nutritionists also said adding fruit to a kids' meal that is already unhealthy doesn't solve the problem.
