Surveillance pictures capture robbery at West End bank

PITTSBURGH — Police are looking for an armed gunman accused of robbing a bank in the West End Tuesday morning.

Investigators said the robbery happened just before 10 a.m. at the First Niagara Bank on Wabash Street when a man approached a teller, pulled a blue plastic bag from his waistband and pointed a gun at the employee.

According to police, the man said, “Give me the money. Hurry up, give me the money.”

The gunman went to a second teller, pushed a customer out of the way, and said, “Give me more money. Give me more money,” city police spokeswoman Diane Richard said.

Detectives said the robber then fled the bank on foot and was last seen running down Wabash Street toward Neptune Street. He made off with an undetermined amount of cash.

The robber is described as black, tall and thin — about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds — and wearing a black baseball cap, sunglasses, black vinyl jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact police.
