Arrest pending in connection with Bloomfield shooting that left 3 dead

PITTSBURGH — Channel 11 News has learned that authorities have an arrest pending in connection with a shooting Monday in Pittsburgh's Bloomfield neighborhood that left three people dead.

The Allegheny County medical examiner identified the victims inside the apartment as 16-year-old Jaimill Kenney, a 10th grader at University Prep High School, and 20-year-old Akeilah Solomon, who lived in the apartment.

The body of 25-year-old Kadeem Williams, of Homestead, was found with a gunshot wound behind the apartment building.

"The person who was found in the alley was dressed consistently with if you're going to rob or burglarize a house,” District Attorney Stephen Zappala said.

Pittsburgh police believe Williams entered the apartment through a bathroom window shortly after midnight and exchanged gunfire with an uninjured victim inside the apartment.

According to Zappala, Meiko DeVaughn will be arrested but not charged with homicide.

Zappala says bullets that were used in the fatal shooting matched a gun that DeVaughn had. He’ll reportedly be charged with felony possession of a gun, having stolen property and drug possession.

According to Zappala, the gun was traced back to a stolen weapon out of Butler County. About $1,000 worth of marijuana and $14,000 in cash was found inside the apartment, Zappala said.

Channel 11's Brandon Hudson has learned that DeVaughn is Kenney's brother. It's still unclear how Solomon is connected to the brothers.

“The most important thing for the community is this is not a random act of violence -- nor do we believe anyone in this situation intended to take anyone's life,” Zappala said.

Zappala believes a second gun was in play and a second person was outside during the break-in.

Channel 11 spoke with Solomon’s aunt, Keishah Saunders, after she learned about her niece’s death.

"Akeilah was a very outgoing and bubbly person. She had a beautiful singing voice. She was just a very loving young girl,” Saunders said. "My family is very numb, and we're not understanding what exactly is going on."

Meanwhile, some residents in Bloomfield told Channel 11 News that homicides in the neighborhood are rare, and the statistics backed up their claims.

According to the Pittsburgh Police Annual report, there were no homicides in Bloomfield in 2012, two in 2013 and one in 2014.
