PITTSBURGH — TSA officers at Pittsburgh International Airport found a loaded handgun in a carry-on bag.
The gun was found at a security checkpoint on Thursday. Police say a woman from Swissvale had the gun — loaded with two bullets — and 35 other bullets in her bag.
Allegheny County police were alerted to the situation after the gun was found. The U.S. State Attorney’s Office for Western Pennsylvania requests that the county sheriff’s department revoke the concealed carry license of any person who brings a gun to an airport security checkpoint.
“Bringing a loaded firearm to an airport security checkpoint is a serious offense,” said Karen Keys-Turner, TSA federal security director for the airport. “It’s so serious that because this traveler carried her gun to the checkpoint, she now faces a Federal financial civil penalty that could run into the thousands of dollars.”
So far this year, 13 guns have been found at security checkpoints at Pittsburgh International Airport.
