U-Haul truck crashes into Shaler house, driver dies during surgery

PITTSBURGH — First responders rushed to a Shaler home Monday afternoon after a truck crashed into the front of the building.

The incident happened at a home on the corner of Reese Avenue and Grant Avenue. It appeared that a U-Haul truck had driven into the house.

When Chopper 11 arrived at the scene, firefighters were working to secure the building. The driver of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, as well as the passenger in the truck.

However, Shaler police confirmed to Channel 11 that the driver died during surgery. It’s unclear what led to the driver’s death.

Police said the passenger is still in the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

“There was no one home at the time other than a dog, the dog was rescued out of the house,” Chuck Coyle, Deputy Chief of Undercliff Volunteer Fire Company, said.

It’s still unclear what led to this crash.
