PITTSBURGH — A family is suing University of Pittsburgh Mercy hospital, claiming a family member was denied the care that could have saved his life.
The family of Dorian Tillman said money was the issue in Tillman not receiving adequate care at the hospital.
In the wrongful death lawsuit, the family claims doctors were negligent in providing treatment to Tillman because he did not have medical insurance.
Tillman’s widow, Robin Tillman, said, “I want to know at what point did he (doctor) decide my husband’s life wasn’t worth saving.”
Dorian Tillman suffered from a digestive disorder, which his family said he was treated for several times at Mercy since 2010.
In 2011, Robin Tillman said her husband was taken to the hospital and told emergency surgery was needed. According to the suit, a CT scan was scheduled and then cancelled.
Jason Luckasevic, attorney for the Tillman family, said complications arose and “over a period of 14 hours, he was left in an unmonitored room where vitals were not checked.”
UPMC said in a statement, “We extend our sympathies to the family. We deny the allegations.”
