Video shows massive brawl during Pittsburgh high school football game

PITTSBURGH — Three local high school football players have been disciplined for their roles in a fight during Friday night’s Perry vs. Westinghouse football game.

According to Pittsburgh Public Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh, the commotion began after a player from Westinghouse struck a player from Perry after the completion of a play.

Video of the event at Cupples Stadium on the South Side shows several dozen people, including students and adults, in a melee in the middle of the field. (WATCH VIDEO ABOVE.)

Pugh said a coach was struck by a student while trying to break up the activity. In addition, two school police officers received minor injuries.

One fan wrote on Twitter, “Big fight on the field, and helmets was flying.”

According to Pugh, three Westinghouse students have received school-based disciplinary action. Their names and punishments haven’t been released.

On a blog, one fan praised school police for quickly intervening and bringing the situation under control.

“The fight was downright ugly! School police officers and security officers had to get the situation under control. Good job Pittsburgh Public School Safety.”
