Greater Washington County Food Bank plans several drives after 300% increase in need

BROWNSVILLE, Pa. — The Greater Washington County Food Bank has distributed more food in April than it has in the entire 35 years the organization has been around.

So far, no one has had to be turned away.

“We usually distribute between 48,000 and 50,000 pounds of food in a month,” explained Connie Burd, Executive Director. “We started April with the anticipation that these numbers would double, then revised our expectations upward, but we did not anticipate seeing a 300% increase in those registering for emergency food assistance - and these numbers are climbing on a daily basis.”

If someone in the county needs food, they are asked to fill-out a form HERE and then will be assigned to one of the following Truck to Trunk distribution events:

  • Site 1: 1st Saturday in Coal Center 9-11AM Grace United Methodist Church 420 California Dr., Coal Center PA 15417. Servicing California, Beth Center, Centerville, Coal Center, Marianna, and Ellsworth pantries.
  • Site 2: 2nd Monday in McGuffey 9-11AM 4170 Rt 40 (across from Sunset Beach), Claysville PA 15323. Servicing McGuffey and Prosperity pantries.
  • Site 3: 3rd Monday at Donora pantry 9-11AM Mon Valley Youth and Teen Center, 160 Thompson Ave., Donora PA 15033. Servicing Donora pantry
  • Site 4: 3rd Tuesday in Allenport 9-11AM 1850 Main St., Allenport PA 15412. Servicing Allenport and Charleroi pantries
  • Site 5: 3rd Wednesday in Burgettstown 9-11AM 1616 Smith Twp State Rd., Atlasburg PA 15004. Servicing Burgettstown and Avella pantries
  • Site 6: 2nd Thursday in Monongahela 9-11AM First United Methodist Church 430 W. Main St., Monongahela PA 15063. Servicing Monongahela pantry
  • Site 7: 3rd Friday in Canonsburg 9-11AM Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church 112 W. Pike St., Canonsburg PA 15317. Servicing Canonsburg, Peters Twp., and Finleyville pantries
  • Site 8: 3rd Saturday in Meadowlands 9-11AM 300 Pike St., Meadowlands PA 15347. Servicing Meadowlands and Tylerdale pantries
  • Site 9: 4th Wednesday in McDonald 9-11AM McDonald Municipal Building 151 School St., McDonald PA 15057. Servicing McDonald pantry
  • Site 10: Every Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday at Community Circle 9AM-12PM 69 E. Pine St., Washington PA 15301. Servicing Downtown Washington
