BELMONT, OHIO — The king has been crowned.

Weighing in at 2,405 pounds, a pumpkin grown by Erik Gunstrom of Harrison City took top honors and broke several records at the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival’s annual “King Pumpkin” contest in Ohio.

The Belmont County Tourism Council crowned Gunstrom and his huge harvest during the festivities Wednesday. The pumpkin is the largest grown in Pennsylvania, and the largest grown in the world so far this year, said Jackee Pugh, executive director of the council.

The event is held annually during the last full weekend in September and includes entertainment, contests and a Giant Pumpkin Festival Parade that begins at 12:45 p.m. Saturday.
