FARMINGTON, Pa. — Nemacolin Woodlands Resort announced Sunday that Prince, a 5-year-old white lion, died earlier this week after suffering adverse effects from anesthesia.
According to officials there, the lion underwent a routine medical procedure to treat an ear infection on Wednesday. On Thursday, Prince suffered a seizure and died.

The lion was under the care of experienced wildlife professionals and a specialized veterinarian during the procedure.
Officials called the “sudden loss” of Prince “tragic” and said he will be deeply missed by everyone at the facility.
According to our partners at the Trib, both of Prince's parents still live at the resort.
“The people who were closest to him here are obviously quite sad and grieving,” Jeff Nobers, Nemacolin's vice president of communications, told the Trib. “He was born and raised by the staff. It was such a neat thing to have at the resort, a white lion cub that grew up here. It's not your everyday occurrence.”
A staff veterinarian determined the cause of death to be an adverse reaction to the anesthesia, officials told the Trib.
