DAYTON, Ohio. — A local grandmother was killed in a car crash Tuesday while she was on her way to Dayton, Ohio, to celebrate a relative’s birthday.
Police said Mary O’Callaghan, 83, and her granddaughter were driving to the University of Dayton, but never made it.
Investigators said a Jeep crossed the grassy median on Route 4 in Dayton and hit O’Callaghan’s car. Tina Arledge saw the crash and said she gave O’Callaghan CPR.
“We noticed the grandmother was turning gray and really grasping for air,” Arledge said.
O’Callaghan died from the injuries suffered in the crash.
O’Callaghan’s granddaughter, who was driving at the time, survived the crash. Her name and condition have not been released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
