ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — The investigation into an organized theft ring that targeted gyms across our area is expanding, as one of the women charged faced a judge Thursday.
Police say she’s part of a network of thieves working together to steal from cars parked outside of gyms.
Channel 11 found out that federal agents are getting involved in the case.
Thursday was the first court appearance for Ashley Gibbs, the woman who admitted to police that she was recruited from Seattle and paid to fly to Pittsburgh to be a part of a nationally organized theft ring.

Greensburg Police say Gibbs rented cars at Pittsburgh International Airport for criminals to use to commit crimes.
Channel 11 was the first to tell you that locked cars were broken into outside six gyms across our area. Cash, gift cars, wallets, purses and electronics were stolen.
“A new development, we have reason to believe one of the suspects involved in the theft in Greensburg had used a Turo rental app and essentially stole that vehicle and it was found abandoned in Cleveland, Ohio,” said Capt. Shawn Denning, of Greensburg Police Department.
Police tell us that the crime spree has expanded over to other states.
“We believe these individuals committing these thefts are from out of town just hopping from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and state to state to prevent from getting caught,” Denning said.
We’ve been told this investigation is fluid, and that police are combing through evidence and working to track down the other people involved.
Gibbs remains in Allegheny County Jail, and will face a judge again in March.
