Woodland Hills School District to launch gun buyback program

ALLEGHENY COUNTY — The Woodland Hills School District announced that it has received financial support from an anonymous corporate donor to launch a gun buyback program to help stem the tide of gun violence in area communities.

The district will partner with State Senator Jay Costa (D-Forest Hills), the Rankin Borough Police Department led by Chief of Police Ryan D. Wooten, and the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Rankin led by Reverend Christopher T. Conti, M.D.

“This is an idea that has been a couple of years in the making,” Woodland Hills School District superintendent James Harris said. “Our students and staff have been affected by gun violence. Our district knows that trauma all too well, and we wanted to do something to make a positive impact on our communities.”

Specific details about the gun buyback program, including dates and times, will be announced at a later date.
