PITTSBURGH — People looking for tires are suffering sticker shock these days. The cost for a set of four winter or even regular tires is something customers have never experienced.
Lisa Skander, from Skander Tire in Evans City, says these are the highest prices they’ve ever seen.
Skander says “A lot of it is tariffs, because of the new imposed tariffs some of our off-the-road tires have a 50% increase because of the new tariffs.”
In just the last year the cost of tires has gone up nearly 10%. Customers are now paying upwards of $300 more for a set of tires.
That averages out to nearly $800 for a new set. And there are supply issues as well.
Lisa advises consumers to not expect to have much of a choice. “We call our vendors and try to get stuff and they’re like ‘we’ve had that on back-order since last September, like in 2020.’”
Skander says the best advice she can give is, if you need tires, get them, because supply is limited.
