Man in hospital after being trapped under 700 pounds of metal

BUTLER, Pa. — A 32-year-old man was cutting apart a piece of machinery on Tuesday when a 700-pound piece of steel fell from the ceiling and trapped him for 15 minutes, officials said.

The incident happened inside Armstrong Concrete in Winfield Township, Butler County.

Emergency crews told Channel 11 that the man is lucky to be alive tonight.

It took a dozen firefighters from Winfield Township and Saxonburg to free the man.

Firefighters said the worker was talking and alert during the rescue.

The employee was taken to Allegheny General Hospital.
