Montour quarterback LaBrie looks to continue success after ACL tear

PITTSBURGH — When Montour High School quarterback Randall LaBrie tore his ACL during a workout in June, he wasn’t sure if he’d make it back to play his senior season.

Despite the uncertainty of his playing status, LaBrie made a promise to his team that seemed unlikely.

“Four months. That was my goal,” LaBrie said.

The star quarterback made a promise to his team that no matter what, he would return to play his senior season. Furthermore, he looked to fulfill that promise in four months.

“I just saw like everything I worked for kind of go away in the blink of an eye,” LaBrie said. “So I just worked to get back.”

Contrary to his goal of a return in less than five months, the average time to return from an ACL tear ranges from eight to ten months.

To keep his mind off of the uncertainty, LaBrie stayed close to his teammates, and the game of football.

“I remember saying, ‘I’m going for this chance. I’m going back for this opportunity to get back on the field with my best friends. I’m playing my senior season,’” LaBrie said. “It was all about keeping with the flow of everything.”

After attending countless practices, standing on the sidelines for his teammates and, of course, rehab and treatment, LaBrie finally received clearance to play football again… four months after sustaining his injury.

“I made a promise to them,” LaBrie said.

When time finally came to reveal that he was cleared to play, LaBrie walked into the locker room, paper in hand.

“Guys, we did it,” LaBrie recalled telling his teammates before they erupted with excitement.

Now, after a commanding 26-6 win in his first start, LaBrie looks to go 2-0 Friday night.
