MOUNT OLIVER — A fire that started on the top floor of a home in the 400 block of Hays Avenue caused upward of $70,000 in damages and displaced several residents.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire, which caused significant damage to the top floor of the home. The home has three units in it, although it’s unclear how many people live there.

Michael Terreri of the Mount Oliver Fire Department told Channel 11 the fire eventually went to three alarms, but his crew extinguished it quickly before it could spread.
“It was an excellent job,” he said. “Got in, knocked the fire down, did a primary search which was negative. Nobody was hurt.”
The fire started shortly before 4 p.m.
