WILMERDING, Pa. — A man already charged with raping a woman in Wilmerding last November is facing new charges in a series of violent rapes.
Police said a DNA sample and a similar crime committed a decade ago led officers to connect Lawrence Cook with two additional rapes locally and others hundreds of miles away. Officials said a firearm was involved in each case.%

Authorities said once Cook was in custody for the Wilmerding rape, his DNA was taken and matched to two other rapes that occurred in Wilmerding in February 2014 and July 2015 and one in Savannah, Georgia, from 2005.
Police added the additional criminal charges, including rape, robbery and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, on Friday.
Authorities in Savannah are handling the other case.
Cook was taken to the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment of the new charges.
