Bell was suspended in April for his arrest last year on charges of driving under the influence and marijuana possession.

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert released the following statement on Bell's suspension:

"As I have stated before, we were disappointed in Le’Veon Bell’s actions last August. Le’Veon made a mistake and now he must learn from his mistake and focus on eliminating distractions from his life. We look forward to continuing to work with Le’Veon to try to help him reach his full potential as a person and as a player."

Bell and then-teammate LeGarrette Blount were arrested Aug. 20 after a motorcycle officer in Ross Township, a suburb just north of Pittsburgh, smelled marijuana coming from a vehicle Bell was driving hours before a team flight to a preseason game in Philadelphia.

In February, Bell was sentenced to 15 months of probation, as part of a first offenders' program.

Charges against Blount were dropped after he completed 50 hours of community service. The NFL suspended Blount for one game.

The Steelers face the New England Patriots in Week 1 of the NFL Regular Season on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 8:30 p.m. It's a game you can watch ONLY on WPXI-TV Channel 11.

The Steelers then host the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2, followed by a trip to St. Louis in Week 3.

Bell, along with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and wide receiver Antonio Brown, are looking to build on their outstanding offensive seasons last year.

Bell showed in 2014 why the Steelers were so high on him coming out of Michigan State.

The 48th pick of the 2013 NFL Draft led the AFC in rushing in 2014 with 1,361 yards on 290 attempts. He added 854 yards and three touchdowns on 83 catches.
