North Huntingdon Barn Destroyed By Fire

NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa.,None — A family-owned barn in North Huntingdon burned to the ground Friday afternoon destroying everything inside.

North Huntingdon firefighters told Channel 11 News that the fire started around 2:30 p.m. Channel 11's Courtney Brennan said that despite the hazy weather, smoke could be seen from Route 30 in Irwin.

The barn was located on Schade Hill Road and was owned by the Schade family. Fire crews said everything was destroyed, including several tractors. Firefighters also said several tons of hay was inside the barn.

Crews said they had a hard time controlling the blaze because there were no nearby water hydrants. Firefighters said they had to climb up a hill for nearly a mile with hoses to locate the closest water source.

No one was hurt and no animals were inside the barn at the time of the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
