Friedman-Chapman fell headfirst into the water, which was only 3-½ feet deep. She cracked a vertebra and lost the feeling below her collarbone. Doctors have said that she will never walk again.
Five years after the incident that left her paralyzed, Friedman-Chapman told Today that she has much to be grateful for, now that she and her husband Chris have welcomed a baby girl into the world via a surrogate.
Daughter Kaylee was born on April 26, weighing 7 pounds, 11 ounces.
In addition to being a mother, Friedman-Chapman continues to champion the causes of quadriplegics and paraplegics, serving as a blogger, motivational speaker and maintaining an active presence on social media.
The happy fam . Been awake since 4am but loving this adorable sweet girl!
