PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Zoo celebrated the presence of some of its favorite pachyderms Wednesday afternoon for World Elephant Day.

Aside from the celebration, the zoo also discussed their plans for breeding the first second-generation African elephant is the United States. Currently, the zoo is looking to find a mate for its female, Victoria.
According to the zoo, over 96 elephants are killed every day for ivory. There are 166 African elephants and 142 Asian elephants throughout the United States.
The Pittsburgh Zoo is home to the largest elephant breeding program in North America.
