Pittsburgh's Riverfront Park holds Pierogi Festival

PITTSBURGH — It's hard to say why it's taken this pierogi-loving city so long, but Pittsburgh is finally giving the little stuffed balls of dough their own festival.

Organizers say the Pierogi Fest is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, at Pittsburgh's downtown Riverfront Park from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The festival is free, but vendors charge for food.

The event will feature nearly a dozen pierogi vendors and restaurants, one of which will reportedly offer a sweet potato pierogi.

There will also be live entertainment, children's activities and a pop-up pierogi market selling everything from pierogi T-shirts to jewelry.

Pierogies are a traditional eastern European food similar to a dumpling.
