Police: Crack-smoking mom kicks girl, 16, out of house in dangerous temps; Teen's hands freeze together

PITTSBURGH — A 16-year-old girl was thrown out of her home Tuesday by her own mother, police said, and suffered injuries sustained in the dangerously cold temperatures.

According to the criminal complaint, the girl arrived at Pittsburgh Zone 2’s headquarters with her aunt Tuesday evening to report the incident.

Investigators said the girl told them that she and her 42-year-old mother were “having problems” and she had been staying with her aunt for a few days before she tried to return to her Kirkpatrick Street home Tuesday afternoon.

Officers said when the girl returned to her house, her mother had packed up her belongings and took away her house key.

“The juvenile/victim stated that her mother was smoking crack cocaine in the home today when she had attempted to return,” the criminal complaint stated. “And has been smoking crack cocaine for many years in her presence.”

The girl said she then walked about one mile back to her aunt’s home on Centre Avenue. When she arrived, police said, the girl’s hands were frozen together.

Police then went to Yolanda Williams’ home to ask her questions about the incident. At that time, Williams claimed that her daughter packed her own clothes and left on her own.

“It is reported that the officers smelled an odor of burnt substance emanating from the home.  The mother reported to officers that she had, as recently as a day ago, smoked crack cocaine,” the police report stated.

While police were there, investigators said a man arrived and Williams told the man, “It’s OK baby. I had to put [daughter’s name] [expletive] out the house today. It’s OK.”

Williams was then placed under arrest and taken to the Allegheny County Jail on endangering the welfare of a child and other charges.

“As a parent, no, you don’t do that,” Kim Johnson said after hearing about the incident.

The teen is now staying with her aunt and CYS has been notified.
