Police: Man Gets Trial In Near-Shooting Over Facebook

NORTH STRABANE, Pa.,None — A North Strabane Township man accused of trying to shoot his wife because he believed she spent too much time on Facebook will go to trial on attempted homicide and other charges.

Harry Hibbs Jr., 51, of Eighty-Four, remains jailed unable to post $500,000 bail set by a judge after his arrest on Christmas Eve.

North Strabane Township police said there were two children in the home at the time and that Hibbs' wife, Anna, was holding one of them -- a 2-year-old -- when he pushed her to the ground and hit her in the head with a gun.

"He pushed me down while I was holding my little one," Anna Hibbs said. "My older one was on the bed with us screaming and crying. Then I went to get out another time and he hit me in the head with (the gun) and that's how I got five stitches."

Police said Harry Hibbs then tried to shoot the woman, but the gun malfunctioned.

"I was looking at the barrel of a pistol, and it jammed," Anna Hibbs said. "Whenever he pulled it up, I was praying to God that someone would help me."

Harry Hibbs was also charged with assault and reckless endangerment.

"My life was threatened," Anna Hibbs said. "My family was threatened, but knowing that he is locked up now puts me at ease a little bit."

Anna Hibbs was able to call her mother, who in turn called 911. North Strabane police rushed to the couple's trailer and arrested the woman's husband.

Hibbs said she plans on testifying in court and wants others who have been the victims of domestic violence to come forward as well.

"I want to stand up, and I want people to know there is so much domestic violence going on," Hibbs said. "Don't be afraid to tell someone."
