MCKEESPORT, Pa.,None — Police said they think a robber was trying to target a McKeesport Eat'n Park restaurant when he went after a 77-year-old employee instead.
Police said it appears as if the robbery started as a smash and grab at the Eat'n Park along Lysle Boulevard early Tuesday morning. They said a man came to the restaurant and threw a cinder block through the window when he came face to face with the waitress.
Police said the robber demanded money from the waitress, known to customers as "Barbie." He took the wallet out of her purse, pushed her out of the way and took off, police said.
Police said she suffered a laceration under her eye as a result of the altercation.
"She's been here since they had two tables," said customer Cedric Robertson. "She's one of the few that will draw a pension from this place. She's been here for years."
The robber, police said, ran into another female employee on his way out, but that woman wasn't injured.
The robber is described as black man, standing about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 110 pounds. He was wearing dark jeans and a tan top, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact McKeesport police.
