Several injured in hit-and-run involving Port Authority bus in Perry South

PITTSBURGH — Several people were injured in a hit-and-run accident involving a Port Authority bus Monday afternoon in Pittsburgh’s Perry South neighborhood, a Port Authority spokesman said.

Emergency crews were called to Perrysville Avenue for the accident, which was reported just after 1 p.m.

Two people were taken to Allegheny General Hospital, one person was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital and another person was treated at the scene, Port Authority spokesman Adam Brandolph said. A fifth person said he was going to walk to AGH.

A witness, who only identified herself as Betty, told Channel 11 News that an SUV crossed the yellow line and collided head-on with the bus before backing up and driving away.

“He was caught on that bike rack over there, and he was trying to pull himself free. We thought when he pulled himself free (that) he was going to pull over, but he pulled out and kept going,” she said.

The SUV was found a few blocks away on Clayton Avenue. As of Monday evening, police had not found the driver.
