Suits Settled For Leaky Convention Center Roof

PITTSBURGH,None — The city-county Sports & Exhibition authority has settled a lawsuit and countersuits stemming from leaky roofs that have plagued Pittsburgh's David L. Lawrence Convention Center since it opened in 2003.

Executive Director Mary Conturo said the $1.86 million settlement doesn't quite cover the $2.1 million spent to fix leaks in 2006, 2009 and 2011 but says it was fair given the risks involved in litigation.

The authority sued two roofers, Tom Brown Contracting Inc. of Lawrence, Washington County; and Tremco Inc. of Beachwood, Ohio; and an insurer, Fidelity & Deposit Co. and was then countersued.

Under terms of the settlement, the authority will get $1.5 million in cash and receive $360,000 in credits on existing contracts.
