11 things to do in Pittsburgh this weekend (9/21-9/23)

PITTSBURGH — There's a whole lot going on in and around Pittsburgh this weekend, including the Pittsburgh Pierogi Festival, a 5K for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation and Oktoberfest at Penn Brewery.

Pittsburgh Pierogi Festival

Sunday, 1-6 p.m. - Kennywood

The annual celebration of the #CityofDumplings will feature our city’s favorite food from over two dozen restaurants, chefs, and pierogi purveyors who will be serving up hot and delicious pierogies, creative pierogi-inspired dishes, dessert pierogies and more! As you make your way through Kennywood Park, hop on some classic rides open to guests special for the day, paint your own pierogi with Paint Monkey and shop the pop-up Pierogi Marketplace for everything from pierogi t-shirts and clothing, to jewelry and pottery, to festival keepsakes and Pittsburgh memorabilia.

Oktoberfest

Friday & Saturday, 5 p.m. - midnight; Sunday, noon to 10 p.m. - Penn Brewery

Get your lederhosen ready -- Penn Brewery's classic Oktoberfest celebration is back for another two weekends of fun! As always, the brewery combines old-time traditions with new sounds and flavors. The mid-19th-century landmark building and Biergarten hosts two weekends of cold bier, delicious food, traditional Bavarian music and fun vibes!

The Village People

Saturday, 7 p.m. - The Meadows Racetrack and Casino

From "YMCA" to "Macho Man" and "In the Navy," The Village People have been putting out hits for more than 40 years. What better way to relive the end of the 70s than with this legendary band? Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8.

Penn's Colony Festival

Saturday & Sunday - 365 Saxonburg Blvd., Saxonburg, PA

Penn’s Colony is as unique among other festivals as the Pittsburgh region is to the nation. With an authentic focus on the French & Indian era that began with the 1753 journey of a 21-year-old George Washington through this region, Penn’s Colony Festival weaves history into a colonial faire featuring a village filled with fine craftsmen.

Military Antiques Xtravaganza

Friday & Saturday - Monroeville Convention Center

The MAX Show has a convention-like atmosphere. It is a show no serious dealer or collector would consider missing. The 1,500 tables provide the best in collectibles and in quantities not to be seen anywhere in the world. The MAX, of course, attracts a large American contingent.

The Play That Goes Wrong

Various Times - The Benedum Center

The comedy “The Play That Goes Wrong” is making its national tour debut in Pittsburgh on its biggest stage yet after success on Broadway. The play begins with members of a drama society who are attempting to put on a 1920s murder mystery. But as they hastily get ready at the Benedum Center, everything is against them. And the Tony Award-winning set is the number one culprit.

Brewers vs Pirates

Friday & Saturday, 7:05 p.m.; Sunday, 1:35 p.m. - PNC Park

The season might not have gone as well as we hoped for in April, but that doesn't mean it's a complete loss. This weekend is the last home series for the Pirates this season. That means it's prime time to enjoy the view before we lose it until next spring and hope begins anew. The Pirates will be back for a makeup game on Oct. 1 against the Marlins, but the time has not been released.

Penguins Preseason

Saturday & Sunday, 3 p.m. - PPG Paints Arena

The end of baseball season in Pittsburgh means one things for Black and Gold fans: the start of hockey season. After a disappointing end to the Penguins' hopes for a threepeat, this season means a chance for vengeance. The Blue Jackets come to town Saturday and the Red Wings stop by Sunday for preseason matchups.

Chatterton

Various times, Trinity Cathedral

Chatterton’s plot takes inspiration from historical character Thomas Chatterton, the Romantic era’s most famous suicide, an 18th-century poet who took his young life and was immortalized 100 years later by a very famous painting.

This performance from Quantum takes the audience through masterfully dressed spaces in the stunning historical landmark. The experience begins with pre-show drinks in Pittsburgh’s oldest churchyard and includes a full intermission dinner by the celebrity chef of the week.

Have you already joined us at Trinity Cathedral? What did you see on your journey? Comment below and let us know what...
