4th of July fireworks returning to Pittsburgh’s Point State Park

PITTSBURGH — Fourth of July fireworks will return to Pittsburgh’s Point State Park this year.

A family-style picnic will be held July 4 in Point State Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. It will include patriotic music and food vendors. Fireworks will begin at twilight.

During an interview with Channel 11, Mayor Bill Peduto said the final plan was made after roughly six weeks of discussion, taking into account the CDC’s recent mask guidance, along with Allegheny County’s vaccination numbers.

Peduto said he expects there won’t be capacity limits for outdoor events come July 4th, however he expects the crowd still won’t be as large as it’s been in previous years.

“Downtown Pittsburgh will start to feel a lot like it did pre-covid, and we want to use the 4th of July to officially welcome everyone back,” Mayor Peduto said.

In addition to the traditional fireworks display, block party fees for neighborhood parties will be waived on July 4. Single blocks of residential streets can be blocked off with two city-provided barricades.

Block party permits are still required, but the $25 fees will be waived. The permits must be submitted by June 23 (CLICK HERE to apply and HERE for block party policies).

“Other announcements on summertime public events, including the resumption of the Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race, are also forthcoming,” a news release from the city of Pittsburgh said.

Registration for the 2021 Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race and Dollar Bank Junior Great Race will open next week. One GREAT Weekend will take place September 25-26.

More information on the Great Race will be made available soon, along with announcements on City of Pittsburgh summertime resources and activities, including the reopening of swimming pools, Cinema in the Parks and musical performances.
