The monument is dedicated to the lives lost in 2001 and includes their pictures.

"We felt that these people needed to not be forgotten and to always be remembered," said Clair Ewing, commander of American Legion Post 868. "We feel blessed and honored, and it’s a part of our duty as patriots to this country to display and honor this fine relic."

The section of steel beam from the twin towers that is part of the monument was gifted to Lower Burrell by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The beam had been in the city since 2011 until officials decided where to display it.

Through the support of the community and companies, the Legion provided all of the funding for the memorial.

"We need to remember on this day, especially on this day, those words, 'Never forget,'" said Richard Callender, the mayor of Lower Burrell.

Although this monument is new, the mayor said this legion post has been holding a 9/11 memorial service every year since the attacks happened.
