PITTSBURGH — The Allegheny County Board of Health moved forward with proposed plans that could create stricter air quality regulations for local manufacturing and industrial companies and increase public alert requirements.
The board unanimously approved at its meeting Wednesday that revisions to the Mon Valley Air Pollution Episode Rule move into a public comment period. Jim Kelly, deputy director of the Bureau of Environmental Health for ACHD, said the department must declare an “air pollution watch” if next day air quality forecasts exceed Mon Valley particulate matter threshold levels and an “air pollution warning” if the levels exceed the threshold and the department expects atmospheric conditions will continue for 24 hours.
