Allegheny County tracking ‘preventable hospitalizations and deaths’ to events, sports, parties

PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County officials said they are tracking “preventable hospitalizations and deaths from the [COVID-19] virus” back to public gatherings, sporting events, parties, concerts and more.

At a news conference on Tuesday, Allegheny County Health Department director Dr. Debra Bogen said not much has changed since the previous week. The county is seeing about 400 new cases per day and the positivity rate is about 6.2%.

“Getting vaccinated saves lives and keeps hospital beds open for those who need them,” Bogen said, who added there have been five people between the ages of 25-49 who died in September due to the virus.

Bogen added that about 14,000 county residents have already taken advantage of the booster shots now being offered.
