Allentown woman spends 12 hours in hospital Monday after being hit by car while unloading groceries

ALLENTOWN — “I definitely think there’s a God that’s watching out for her.”

A Pittsburgh man named Josh, who wants to keep his last name private for fear of retaliation, got choked up talking about how his mother ended up in the hospital Monday.

She was hit by a car, and doctors had to stitch her ear back together.

“It kind of breaks your heart. Just to see in a split second something can change,” Josh said.

His mom was unloading groceries from her car on Eureka Street in Allentown when a car started speeding down the street.

“She was in between the door and the car, and the vehicle came speeding down the street. We don’t know how fast he was going, he hit the door, and hit into her,” he said.

The driver initially stopped. Josh found Ring camera video that shows the driver getting out of the car and going up the street, where a neighbor was helping the woman.

“He came up, and said ‘is everything ok?’ And the neighbor said ‘no, it’s not,’ as he was on the phone with 911. The guy just turned, and walked down the street. Then he went to his car, and left,” Josh said.

Josh’s mom spent most of Monday at Mercy Hospital.

“She’s got multiple contusions, and lacerations on her right ear. There’s a contusion on her leg,” he said.

Police are looking for the driver.

“It’s not right to do that to anyone. It’s a really sad situation that someone would just do that, and not even have the heart to rectify the situation,” he said.
