PITTSBURGH — 2:25 P.M. UPDATE: The suspect in the carjacking and assault of a woman outside a South Side grocery store is the same man police sought in connection with a Wilkinsburg home invasion from Sunday.
A woman was beaten and carjacked Wednesday night before being dumped outside a grocery store on Pittsburgh’s South Side, police said.
The woman walked to the Giant Eagle in Wharton Square for help after police said a man drove the woman's car and threw her out of it behind the store.
Channel 11's Renee Wallace is following the investigation and search for a suspect -- for Channel 11 News, starting at 5 p.m.
Police said that earlier in the evening, the woman, who knows the man, picked him up along Fifth Avenue.
She then drove to the area of Merriman Avenue and South 21st Street, where, according to police, she was assaulted, beaten and pistol-whipped. The man then got behind the wheel.

About 90 minutes later, the suspect drove off after throwing her out of her car.
The woman was in critical condition when she was taken to the hospital. She was listed in serious condition Thursday morning.
Detectives were seen behind the store gathering evidence near a dumpster, which was still draped with crime tape Thursday.
Police are looking for a blue Nissan Versa with the license plate KMV6629.
