Bloomfield restaurant gives out more than just free meals to people in need during COVID-19 pandemic

PITTSBURGH — For nearly four decades, Rocky‘s Café in Bloomfield has provided food to the community. Now, they’re providing much more than just food --clothing and even toys for children and a big customer for Rocky’s these days is the homeless.

“I’ve never seen that many homeless people,” said owner Rocky Mori.

And Mori knows just about everything there is to know about Bloomfield. He’s been in business for 40 years. But today, the restaurant on Liberty Avenue is more than that.

“They’re coming by there grabbing something they’re coming and giving me money I had a little old lady last week that gave me $3 and said, ‘Here, get some more stuff,’” Mori said.

Not only is Mori feeding the homeless 40 to 50 sandwiches a day, in some cases, he’s clothing them also providing toys for children and even food for local pets.

Mori said it’s a community effort.

“People donated blankets and hats and coats and I’m passing them all out. I even gave a girl a pair of socks she needed socks,” Mori said.

Mori said it’s all about whatever it takes these days, but he’s been able to put himself in other people shoes , people who aren’t as fortunate as him.

“I’m blessed I have no problems. I try to help the people,” Mori said.
