Boiler malfunctions at elementary school in Baldwin-Whitehall SD

BALDWIN, Pa. — Firefighters were called Friday morning to McAnnulty Elementary School in Baldwin because of a problem with a boiler.

Baldwin-Whitehall School District Superintendent Randal Lutz said a malfunction was detected before students got to school, but as staff began to arrive.

Students were temporarily detained on school buses before they were rerouted to Whitehall Elementary School, Lutz said. McAnnulty Elementary staff also went to Whitehall Elementary, where normal school day routines are being conducted.

Lutz said the district’s boiler inspection services corrected the problem with the boiler.

McAnnulty Elementary’s air quality and ventilation are being evaluated, as per standard protocol, according to Lutz.

“Students will return to McAnnulty if the building is released early in the day. Otherwise, all McAnnulty students will remain at Whitehall Elementary until the end of the school day and will follow all normal dismissal procedures as well as normal bus schedules,” Lutz said.
