PITTSBURGH — The effort to get back up and running from the COVID-19 shut downs took a major hit over the weekend as rioting and looting broke out following a peaceful protest.
An eyeglass store on Fifth Avenue had damage everywhere inside after windows and doors were smashed in. There was only one pair of eyeglasses left on the shelf.

“It’s hard to kind of wrap my head around all of it, but obviously throwing bricks at our store front was a touch senseless and doesn’t really, I mean it doesn’t make any sense to use,” owner of the Original Oyster House Jen Grippo said.
For more than 150 years, the Oyster House in Market Square has been serving Pittsburghers. But Grippo said business is on hold as the broken windows are taking precendence. She said she hopes the landmark restaurant will be back up and running before the end of the week when Allegheny County transitions into the green phase.

“I couldn’t imagine if I was one of the businesses, say like, a small business owner, and you couldn’t afford to pay your insurance and after this happened, it breaks my heart for those people who are in situations like that,” Sinful Sweets owner Chris Weck said.
Weck said he boarded up his shop after seeing what was happening in other cities around the country, and he was able to finish it before any damage could be done.
