Cheswick man dies in fire Friday

CHESWICK, Pa. — A Cheswick man died at the hospital after being rescued from his burning home on Friday.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office on Saturday identified the man as Darryl Joseph Hamley, 54.

The fire occurred around 7:40 p.m. Friday at the duplex at 1419 Pittsburgh Street in Cheswick.

According to our news partners at the Trib, Hamley was found unconscious on the second floor and was pulled from the home by firefighters before being taken to to UPMC St. Margaret Hospital. He died shortly after 8:30 p.m.

The fire was contained to the kitchen at the back of the house, with heavy smoke throughout the rest of that side of the duplex, according to Fire Chief Rick Franks.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
