We know that the coronavirus pandemic is an overwhelming and stressful time for everybody, so we’re going to put together some positive things that are happening within our community every day to help those in need.
It’s apparent that during hard times, the Pittsburgh area always comes together to help one another.
Spartan Mounts prints face shields
Spartan mounts in Cranberry Township Butler County is a 3-D printing company in the business of making gun mounts.
But when this company started getting calls from hospitals in state and out of state for help, they started production on something more vital: face shields.
They have 23 printers making the plastic components for the health care masks.
Friends.Help
If you are out of a job or if you're a business owner looking to hire, there’s now a website a Pittsburgh woman just created to help.
Lynsie Campbell is a tech entrepreneur and came up with the Friends.Help website.
“It’s a community project focused on helping people without work – connect with people in their network who need help,” Campbell said.
She says it’s easy for everyone to directly connect with one another.
“And we broke it down into two categories as well so people can sign up everyday tasks like pick-up and delivery, yard work,” said Campbell.
The other category is for professional skills and she says the website is easy to navigate.

West Mifflin teacher uses 3D printers to create face shields for healthcare workers
A West Mifflin staff member is using his time at home to create face shields to donate to healthcare workers.
According to a Facebook post on the district’s page, Mr. Sickles relocated the WM Makerspaces 3D printers to his house where he prints the frame, then uses plastic sheeting and punches it using a standard 3-hole punch.
Printing takes about an hour and assembly takes less than 30 seconds, according to the post.
He’s already made 53 shields and is aiming to produce 100. “Thank you Mr. Sickles for your time and effort to make a difference!” the post reads.
