Duquesne University bans all off-campus programs, social gatherings due to COVID-19 concerns

PITTSBURGH — Duquesne University placed a ban on all off-campus programs and social gatherings in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

In a release on its website, the university said the ban also includes off-campus residents living independently from their families. The only “social interaction” permitted by Duquesne is housemates and family members, as those living together are considered a POD.

The ban comes with consequences to any Duquesne student found attending an event.

Officials said the first offense comes with probation for up to a year and a ban from the school’s campus. The second offense equals suspension from the university, though it’s unclear how long that would be.

Duquesne said student organizations, including Greek Life, could face immediate suspension if found violating the ban as well.

The same rules apply to on-campus residence halls, officials said. Students who violate the visitation policy established for the residence halls are subject to the same sanctions.
