Election board approves proposal for additional polling locations, times in Allegheny Co.

ALLEGHENY CO., Pa. — The Allegheny County Board of Elections unanimously approved a proposal for opening additional polling locations in the area for the November election.

Officials said under the proposal, the elections division would open additional offices on specific dates and times leading up to Election Day to avoid massive wait times on a single day.

Officials said the county has enough residents who have either previously served or have volunteered to serve as a poll worker to fully staff the 1,323 polling places. Approximately 3,500 of those have been assigned to locations thus far and training of those poll workers began last week.

According to the release, the board voted unanimously to increase the pay of poll workers who serve on Nov. 3 to $200 in light of their service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials said they are now processing online applications in the same day they are received and working through paper applications with additional staff and shifts. The number of duplicates, approximately 40-50%, is impacting that work.

Voters are reminded that they should apply now for mail-in and absentee ballots rather than waiting. Applications can be done online HERE.
