Federal Trade Commission: Don’t buy fake COVID test results, vaccine cards

PITTSBURGH — The Federal Trade Commission is warning people not to buy fake COVID-19 test results and vaccination cards, which are readily available online.

From workplaces to event venues, proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test is becoming more common.

Scammers are taking advantage of the opportunity to sell fake documentation.

The FTC points out that buying a fake vaccine card, making your own, or filling in blank cards with false information is illegal.

Anyone caught doing so could be fined or even wind up in jail.

The FTC also warns that sharing your personal information with someone you don’t know is dangerous.

Scammers selling you a fake card could turn around and sell your information, putting you at risk for identity theft.
