PITTSBURGH — On a rainy Halloween morning, Pokemon characters and even superheroes converged onto Riverfront Park on the North Shore, for the first ever Trick or Trot 5K & Fun Run held by the Propel Schools Foundation.

Costume-clad participants could run or walk along the Mon River in support of the Propel Partners in Wellness Program.

“That is a program used utilized in our schools to support the social, emotional and medical needs of our scholars, families and our staff,” Sonya Toler, Senior Director of Strategic Communications and Enrollment at Propel Schools, said. “We were looking for a fun way to get out and promote health and promote our schools at the same time.”

In addition to helping the foundation, its also good way to get some physical activity in for the people who took part.

“Well we love to do fun runs together and in a costume, it couldn’t be any better,” Marisa Miller and Parker Nero of Squirrel Hill, said.

The event is expected to raise $5,000 for the Propel Schools Foundation.

After the race, guests will enjoy a festive community atmosphere with local food trucks, a DJ, games, and wellness education.

The Propel Schools Foundation supports the mission of Propel Schools: to catalyze the transformation of public education so that all children have access to high-performing public schools. This organization is the philanthropic arm of Propel.

Propel Schools Foundation seeks and accepts donations and other resources that advance their work that empowers scholars to achieve academic and personal excellence, according to a press release.
