Flames destroy Vandergrift’s Longfellow Inn, spread to neighboring buildings

VANDERGRIFT, Pa. — Flames consumed three buildings in Vandergrift late Monday night, officials said.

Firefighters were called to Longfellow Street shortly after 11:30 p.m. When they got there, the fire was quickly spreading between the properties.

Video shared with Channel 11 News by a viewer showed flames shooting through the roof of one of the buildings.

The former Longfellow Inn, which has been vacant, was involved in the blaze and was destroyed. Officials said the fire started there before the flames jumped to the neighboring properties.

Another one of the buildings that was badly damaged housed apartments, officials said. Part of its roof collapsed.

Two people were displaced by the fire, officials said.

Crews remained at the scene into Tuesday morning spraying off the buildings.

A firefighter suffered a minor knee injury, officials said.
